The overall financial situation facing UK households improved in Q1 but remains weaker than the long term average, according to the latest research from the Alliance Trust Economic Research Centre. Our UK Financial Reality Index increased from 84.4 to 87.9, its highest level since Q4 2009. The index has remained below the critical level of 100 since Q3 2004. |

In Q4, the financial situation facing US households improved for a fifth consecutive quarter, according to research from the Alliance Trust Economic Research Centre. Our US Financial Reality Index increased from 118.5 to 119.1, remaining above the critical level of 100 for the third successive quarter and reaching its highest level since Q3 1999. |

This month’s official inflation report showed that the headline rate of inflation fell from 2.8% to 2.4%. Alliance Trust’s monthly study of inflation rates affecting different age groups found that the over 75s still face the highest rate of inflation at 2.9%, marginally reduced from 3.1% last month. |
